I’m a genuine human being who is kind and friendly towards others. I find it a pleasure and a privilege to journey with my clients. And I believe in all of us there is a little seed of hope and spirit that I can help to grow.

I started my journey as a Medical Scientist with a Masters Qualification in Biochemistry and an Acupuncturist but then I changed career to a Psychotherapist and Counsellor Supervisor, and I love every minute of it and have no regrets ever since.

As well as being a Psychotherapist and Counsellor, I'm also a Trained and Qualified Counsellor Supervisor providing Counsellor Supervision for Psychotherapists and Counsellors. I would view Counsellor Supervision as a collegial relationship with the sole purpose of supporting the Supervisee in their work with clients.

I’m a competent, hard – working, honest, kind, professional with a calm, friendly disposition and I bring this into the Therapy Session. I possess a high standard of work ethic in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Counsellor Supervisor and a genuine commitment to client's mental health. Abuse
Abuse can be an obvious, or not so obvious, misuse of power from one individual to another. There are many types which include physical, verbal, sexual, neglect or emotional.
Anxiety/Stress
Anxiety is a normal response to stressful situations. It becomes stress when anxious feelings persist even though there is no obvious threat.
Depression
Depression is a continual feeling of feeling low over a prolonged period. It can affect 1 in 10 people. It can be mild or severe.
Grief
Grief is the intense sorrow or loss of either a person, place, or thing. I'm a firm believer that during Covid-19 times every individual is grieving on some level.
Suicide
Suicide is the act of intentionally causing one's own death. Having over 10 years working in Pieta and Console, I'm a firm believer that everyone has experienced suicide ideation at some point in their life.
Personal Development
Personal Development is a lifelong process where a person can assess their skills, qualities, and goals in life. This allows them to maximise their potential.

Counsellor Supervision

Relationship Difficulties
In a relationship; ''You have a choice. You can either focus on what's tearing you apart or what's holding you together.'' - unknown

’Marie is an excellent counsellor who really listens and understands her client. Her experience and professionalism was evident in all our interactions. I would highly recommend Marie as a counsellor.’’

‘’Marie has helped me so much. She is so warm and easy to talk to. Even from the early sessions it was like talking to a close friend, making it easy to open up and share my problems which allowed me to get over the hump and be fast on the road to recovery. She helped me be able to look at things from a different perspective when I was stuck in tunnel vision. After my sessions with Marie I was like a different person - I couldn’t recommend her enough.''

"I have been seeing Marie for several months now. I feel that through working with her, I have made a lot of progress in several key issues. Marie provides a safe environment, in which I am encouraged to truly feel my feelings.
Our sessions have been a great help to me, as I feel that I am becoming better-equipped to deal with the issues I am facing. Marie's patient and empathetic approach to counselling is something I greatly appreciate, and I would recommend her services highly"

'' It took me many days , weeks and months to finally pick up the courage to admit to myself I needed therapy to get me through a particular tough time in my life. I knew travelling to a therapist would not be possible. So I decided to look online and that is where I came across Marie McDonagh. Marie was a perfect fit for my needs. She is a wonderful listener and can really read between the lines. She offered me helpful advice and even posted me some literature. I also had the option of texting,  phoning or video call. So depending on my emotions,  I could make the decision on whichever I felt most comfortable with. I also knew that Marie will accommodate me at whichever time of day or evening suits. If you are thinking about making contact with Marie,  I would say to you. Do it. ''

''I started working with Marie in June as I was having a hard time mainly due to a difficult, complicated relationship. It being my first time trying therapy, I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive but Marie was so welcoming and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.’’

‘’After leaving the relationship and ending up back together time and time again I felt like a failure and my friends and family seemed fed up with me for not learning from the last time. But Marie really understood how difficult it was for me given my partner’s mental state and saw things from my perspective. She helped me to understand my thoughts and feelings about everything better and guided me to knowing what I wanted to do. And, I know that if I ever do slip back she will be understanding and support me through it with no judgement.’’

‘’Marie is a highly skilled and experienced professional. She has so much empathy and compassion. I look forward to every session with her and always feel a huge sense of relief after them. I would not hesitate to recommend her as a therapist.''

''I'm really happy that I picked Marie to be my Therapist a few weeks ago.

I Thought I would never need help again.I was nervous about getting in touch with anyone to get help. When I first spoke with Marie in a text message conversation ,this then helped and settled me to do the Zoom meeting with Marie.
I was made feel very welcomed, Marie is allowing me to feel what I want and express it in them meetings.
I'm still struggling with my thoughts and how I Feel.
I'm am more patient and willing to work through it all with Marie, even the tears. There is now a little hope for me.
Thanks you Marie''

“I got in touch with Marie during a personal crisis, and over the following weeks her non-judgmental listening ear and honest feedback helped me sort out my own confusion and come to terms with a major life transition. I highly recommend her as a therapist.”
